Abstract
In order to effectively locate shortcircuit faults in the highvoltage singlecore cable, this paper presents a new method based on the electromagnetic timereversal (EMTR) theory. As the fault location is the maximum energy point, this method monitors the sheath current at the grounding position of the highvoltage terminal and calculates the energy of each guessing fault location by the transfer function of the fault signal. A typical highvoltage cable structure is simulated and analyzed. The results show that the method can effectively locate the fault point, and the accuracy can be improved with the increase of the sampling rate. It is recommended of the above 10 MHz sampling rate in practical applications.
